PMV Engineering obtains EASA STC Extension for CMA-9000 FMS upgrade on A300-600

While the legacy FMS no longer meet airlines' operational requirements (reduced navigation database capacity), the Airbus A300-600 wide-body aircraft are also facing problems of obsolescence and spare parts supply for FMS components. This is becoming a strategic issue, as it is not viable to fly these aircraft for at least the next ten years.

CMA-9000 FMS

As a solution, PMV Engineering EASA STC 10058463 certified both A300-622 and A300-605R models with dual CMA-9000 FMS (so-called FMCDUs), including vertical guidance (Profile Mode). 


All existing FMS interfaces are mostly reused and rerouted from the avionic bay to the FMCDUs installed on the central pedestal in cockpit. 
The following navigation performances are met:

  • RNAV10 / RNP10 
  • RNAV5 / BRNAV 
  • RNAV 1 - RNAV 2 / P-RNAV - TERMINAL RNAV 
  • RNP 4 
  • RNP 1 / TERMINAL RNP 1 - BASIC RNP 1 
  • RNP APCH / RNAV (GNSS) 


CMA-9000 FMS from CMC Electronics offers additional features from either the operational and maintenance perspectives, the main ones being:

  • Increased Navigation Data Base capacity
  • Aircraft model specific performance characteristics for performance and prediction calculations (PDB)
  • LCD display with modern LED backlighting technology providing brighter display under all light conditions
  • Modern processor and memory technologies allowing for fast computations
  • FANS 1/A, CPDLC, ADS-C capabilities
  • CMA-9000 combines both the FMS and MCDU functions into a single unit
  • Higher MTBF improves dispatch reliability (mainly due to CRT replacement)
  • Quicker database loading – High Speed Data loading (2-3 min vs 45 mins)
